35 THOUGHTS ON “FLASHBACK FRIDAY: WILLIAM UNDERHILL

1.JUSTIN

2.November 14, 2014 / 7:11 am

3.He is also on the Minnesota Missing and Unidentified Persons Clearinghouse website athttps://dps.mn.gov/divisions/bca/bca-divisions/administrative/documents/underhillwilliam.pdf

3For some reason it won’t let me look at the PDF; it says I don’t have an up-to-date PDF viewer, which is untrue.

6.Just warning everyone to be careful on this website. I’ve sent her so many messages about a missing person that my Mom was friends with & she has never replied. So in my opinion she could care less about these missing people.

1KATHRYNMARYR

2November 14, 2014 / 4:39 pm

3She could care less…which is why she’s put thousands of hours into this site. Makes sense.

4Meaghan, ignore this person.

5JUSTIN

6November 14, 2014 / 4:52 pm

7Back off lady. Meaghan is handling close to ten thousand missing persons in the United States all by her lonesome. Not even NamUs or the NCMEC have that big a caseload and they have a large paid staff

who are almost guaranteed to get callbacks from law enforcement. Meaghan doesn’t have any of that and she STILL manages to have the most informative missing persons website (IMHO) around. She also has a lot of other things she has to deal with which means sometimes, she has to prioritize and can’t get back to you.

8If you want a response, I would suggest you be polite or you will sound like one of the many, many schizophrenics or just all around nutcases who bombard her with conspiracy theories and your emails will get routed to junk mail.

3Actually, she’s never emailed me that I’m aware of. Apparently she’s leaving messages on Charley’s FB page, which is a really terrible way to get in touch with me as I sometimes go weeks without checking it. I really should check it more often.

4But seeing what she’s written here is not making me keen to respond to, or for that matter even read, the messages she’s left me.

18Yesterday it was 2 messages, now it’s “so many messages”. And it was you who was friends with the MP, not your mother, according to

this comment: https://charleyross.wordpress.com/2009/05/15/missing- children-id-really-like-to-know-more-about/#comment-32740

19Which is correct? Were your messages polite? Were you asking questions she can’t answer? Were you offering information she can’t verify?

20As people have repeatedly attempted to explain to you, Meaghan is a private individual who devotes her time to maintaining this excellent resource on missing people. She does not have time or emotional energy to get invested in all of the many thousands of people on this site. She also gets comments from a lot of people. She doesn’t owe you anything.

15.I have always wondered what happened to bill underhill. We’re good friends at the U of M. I felt very sad when I found him on Charley’s Project and did not know he was a missing person. I thank Charley’s Project for this info at least I know something. Terry Kelly Holmberg

3Hi Mary. I would be happy to share some memories. We would study at the Newmen Crnter on campus. One night we saw this old table.Bill took out a pocket knife and carved in the wood “Bill Underhill will be king of the world in 19 ?” I cannot remember the year.We just laughed. Anything to avoid studying. This is a silly memory, but I just never forgot it. Once we sat outside my apt in the evening until sunrise and Bill talked about the beautiful colors in the sky.He was so aware of the beauty in the world. He talked about liking to fish and loving Lake Superior. He gave me one of his fishing lures shortly before he disappeared I still have this lure. Bill was a wonderful person and I will never forget him. I miss him to this day

7I, too, have one of his lures that he gave me. I’ve replied to Mary saying that I have lots of memories to share, but she either has not seen my messages or has chosen not to respond.

14Hello, Tom–I am just seeing your responses today! How amazing! I am 7 years younger than Bill so hung around with the younger kids at Itasca. Thank you so much for thinking of Bill, for remembering him, and caring about him. It is truly wonderful to read your memories. I will check this site

regularly. I started a Facebook page for Bill today. Here is the link https://www.facebook.com/pages/William-Campbell-Underhill-Missing-Person/721412491335958 I would love to be in touch with you. Thank you so much again!

18.Is there any more detail on what William was wearing the night he disapeared? I wish they would post more information to aid in finding the missing.

19.MARY UNDERHILL

20.March 28, 2015 / 11:58 pm

21.I am William Underhill’s sister. I’m afraid I do not know what he was wearing. Only that he was last seen at a party in Minneapolis. He left and was not seen again. He did not have a car and did not have his coat. His last paycheck was never cashed. He was a student at the university of mn and was living with his family in St. Paul, Thanks.

3Mary, I think I’m going to post again here in case I replied in the wrong field. I don’t know how this works. I was a friend of Bill. We spent summers at Itasca together. I have many many memories and some photos as well. I would like to write up my memories to send you if you are interested. I remember Sarah but I didn’t know he had two sisters. It’s been nearly fifty years but many memories of Bill seem like yesterday.

28.Though I know nothing about fishing that lure looks like it could catch one big fish. The lure Bill gave me was red, green, and yellow on the metal part and two beads on the tail and it is about two inches long. Did you fish often with Bill? If you have one little story you can tell me that would be great.

However I do not want to put you on the spot. At times almost 50 years ago seems like yesterday.

4I have lots and lots of stories about Bill and fishing with Bill. I’d like to write them up and let you see them. I don’t know how to let Bill’s sister see them if she isn’t active anymore on this site. I made a list of tales to write up. Unfortunately I was injured in a fall and have only just got out of the hospital after major surgery and can’t get to that project for a while. I expect full recovery, but can only peck at my keyboard with my one working hand whose fractured fingers are mending. So folks will have to wait. In the meantime, you can look at a webpage I made not long ago.http://www.tomhascallcole.com/ billunderhill.html I promise I will get to writing up those many memories after I have both arms back and catch up.

34.I’m posting this for Terry, who was interested. I sent Mary these links. Well, this one she found for herself I think:http://www.tomhascallcole.com/ billunderhill.html

35.Here my sister writes an essay with rather an emphasis on Bill. It’s kind of a sad outlook but I think you’ll appreciate it. You can see by the way she writes how much we loved him and how special he was to us. (One warning: She talks of a picture of Bill. It was lost along with her house in Katrina!) She changed the names; BILL IS GREG as I’m sure you’ll see.http:// www.tomhascallcole.com/Sally's%202001%20Itasca%20Essay.html

36.Here’s a story that includes Bill that I wrote a while back. START ON PAGE 266. I’ve recycled my pictures. Skip every other page. I translated my crummy Spanish to English– so the English sounds a little funny but…http:// www.tomhascallcole.com/ Recuerdo%20de%20amnesia%20BILINGUAL%20Small%20May_13_2015

.pdf

37.Here’s a book in which I mentioned Bill four times. Search for UNDERHILL (Control F or Mac Command F) and you’ll see the four times he is part of the story. There are three trips to ITASCA in this book.http:// www.tomhascallcole.com/SandsOfPimaArroyo2Small.pdf

38.In this memoir of mine I tell about a trip to Itasca but only a bit about Bill. It’s the Year 2001 trip that my sister wrote about and which I wrote about before but the details are different. The story about Bill telling Mr.

McDonald about the Dave Clark Five is the same here as in the other book, so there’s not much new about Bill. Still you might like another Itasca Tale. START ON PAGE 18. Oh, he’s in the Next story “A bit of Mischief” on page 26…
