I finished the scat and
lyric version of the song beginning to end. I
was aiming to get the sound of Satchmo but he
had more practice and talent. I learned to
yodel some years ago and found that yodelling
doesn't work easily without the standard
nonsense lyrics. It's much easier with
something like:
Heidi hey
yodel ay ee tee oh Hulla lo oh tee Hulla lo oh tee Heidi
hey yodel ay ee tee oh Hulla lo oh tee yodel
ladie tee
Before I tried to copy
Satchmo and the chimps and they
don't fit as well with what I'm
doing. I think there's a lot of
personality that Armstrong was
able to express that was one
reason it sounds so cool.
Anyway, I don't know
if this is proper scat, but it
doesn't make me look quite as
foolish as I felt I sounded at
times in the other recording.
It's back to 105 in tempo by the
way.

Just me
playing the melody mostly. I added
organ to make it prettier. I was so
busy with the backing chords and I cut
them out when they sounded wrong. I
didn't get to the jazzy stuff the guy
did. Just made up some stuff and
experimented to see if I could get
chords to work. That's the clunking
heard at the end.
I'd like to see what I could do
with some originals or some
standards I could add to my 'toire.
Stuff like "All the Things You Are."

I found this recording of a jazzy
song ("If You Ever Need a Fool") I wrote but can't
remember anything about but the ending is
improvisation-like. I was surprised to hear the
ending!
I have no recollection of recording this (but I
like the ending which I remember nothing of) but I
see I have started the sheet music and it's weird
and unfinished. I'd like to add the ending part to
the beginning for more of the same and finish the
sheet music.

You mentioned this song and I found
this guy, one Yvan Jacques, whose performance is
nothing special (a lot of melody) but simple
enough for me to start with. never goes much of
anywhere with the solo, but maybe I can. I can
record a guitar track (and maybe piano/organ) to
solo over.
If we have any other individual
assignments like this, I have an original that I
would like to work on. Maybe even write down the
sheet music.
