Sherry, Sonny, and Steve on the
Urubamba River, Peru
I was born in Louisville,
Kentucky in 1951 but have lived in Arizona since 1958. I
entered Northern Arizona University in 1969 and studied
anthropology and art before focusing on literature and
graduating with a BA degree in English in 1973. I later
completed a master's degree at N.A.U. I have worked as a
cook in Maine, a Colorado River boatman in the Grand
Canyon, a drug rehab counselor, and a language arts
teacher on the Navajo Indian Reservation. My book Quicksand and Blue Springs:
Exploring the Little Colorado River Gorge was published this summer as a trade paperback by
Vishnu Temple Press based in Flagstaff, Arizona. The
book describes the backpacking routes into and through
the wilderness of the Little Colorado River Gorge and
outlines this remote and seldom-visited area. I am also
the creator of The
Galacto Guys, a daily and Sunday
science fiction cartoon strip which received worldwide
newspaper syndication by King Features in 1993. I spend
as much time as I can traveling and seeing the world.
The latest stops have been Rarotonga, Peru and Costa
Rica. This summer (2007) we visited Ecuador and the
Galapagos Islands.
