George L. Batchelder III of Gloucester, Massachusetts
and a winter resident of Wickenburg, died October 22. He
was 69. Mr. Batchelder was born in 1930.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Wilhelmina
(Mimi) Batchelder; three sons and daughters-in-law, Van
and Mary Lou Batchelder of Quincy, California, Terry and
Erica Batchelder of Candor, New York and Robert Kim and
Tracy Batchelder of Annapolis, Maryland; six
grandchildren, Lauren, Nikki, Katherine, Kelsey, Caleb
and Maddie; and two godchildren, Gayle Smalley and
Judith Curby.
Services have been held.
GEORGE LEWIS BATCHELDER III '53 died October 22, 1999,
in Beverly, Mass. He taught biology
in California, Arizona,
and Washington and founded a consulting firm,
Pollen Research Associates. In 1982 he returned to his
family home in North Beverly, where he meticulously
restored a landscape design originally drawn by
Frederick Law Olmsted, and took steps to preserve the
property as a historic site and working farm. He was a
former member of the Beverly Conservation Commission and
the Beverly Charter Commission. He leaves his wife,
Wilhelmina (van Liere) '54, and three sons, Van, Terry,
and Robert.
