JOURNAL NOTES:
Higley and Ocotillo
Roads 01/05/2008
Higley and Ocotillo Roads
8/31/2010 After I went to Gilbert
and Riggs, I made my way here. The entire front pond
was totally dry, and I went out on it. Some of the
mudcracks had bird imprints. Perhaps I could find such
fossils by Table Mesa Road??
Higley and Ocotillo Roads
01/21/2008 After my 700th trip to
Elliot and Cooper Roads I went here. It's Martin
Luther King Day.
Elliot and Cooper Roads
12/06/2008 Drove here from Higley
and Ocotillo.
Higley and Ocotillo Roads
12/06/2008 Drove over at 8:30 or so.
Lots of water.
Higley and Ocotillo Roads
6/5/2012 Giant jackrabbit. Kind of a
long drive for nothing much.
Higley and Ocotillo Roads
05/18/2009 Hotter than heck. I had
cool drinks and walked the two miles or so with no
problem. I'm on vacation! Got a lot done today:
Variax, workbench, checked that old annuity, threw out
blue chairs, got rid of old imac blue, getting rid of
dad's boxes, went here, got beer, cleaned up, backed
up my geocities page as they are going out of the
business and got my own domain name and site at yahoo
web hosting, etc.
Higley and Ocotillo Roads
07/03/2009 Humid but not too hot.
Went at 7:30 or so. Oh, maybe 8:00. One girl running
there. Very little water in front but the canal was
full and blue and still and the back pond was full.
One walkway was overgrown with those native tobacco
plants and things and it was hard to get through it.
Later on, it was full of blue-green tumbleweeds, and I
had to go down to the dry lake and walk across it to
get back to the road.
Higley and Ocotillo Roads
5/2/2010 I drove over at a little
after six I guess. I have to do my annuities today and
practice for the sing-along. Steve's in the
Superstitions with Dits. It was pretty cool and I had
to wear my jacket.
Higley and Ocotillo Roads
05/12/2008 I drove over using the
freeway 101 south to 202 east to Val Vista. Left on
val vista right on pecos right on higley DIRECTIONS
FOLLOW AND ARE ON THE PLACE INFORMATION PAGE. IT WAS
hot and there were a lot of cars on the way. Cool
walking though. No water except the canals and one
large pond with three-inch water. Canals were blue,
cool and inviting. I went to a rock shop afterwards. I
think it's on Pecos or something -- nah. 1:
Higley and Ocotillo Roads
12/8/2010 I drove the surface
streets to get there, risking getting stranded out
there with my bad clutch throwout bearing.
Higley and Ocotillo Roads
10/8/2009 I had to go back to
Polytech to get the laptop, which belongs to AECP. I
stopped by here. You know, are there FIVE STRIPE
SPARROWS HERE???
Higley and Ocotillo Roads
1/2/2018 I just drove over. I first
ate a mac muffin with sausage and egg and a chocolate
dipped ice cream cone and a small bag of chips but
later I walked for 45 minutes.
Higley and Ocotillo Roads
9/15/2009 I popped over at
one-thirty or so after I "taught." Front pond was
totally dry. There was some water elsewhere, though.
Higley and Ocotillo Roads
8/2/2009 I went in on the first turn
into the place where a development is being made. I
drove all over dirt roads and saw NO water. Finally I
made my way around and saw the burrowing owl. Then I
parked in the regular place and walked down the canal
which was full of green water. The front pond had a
few puddles across it and lots of least sandpipers.
Higley and Ocotillo Roads
11/28/2008 I went in the morning. It
was bright and cool. All the ponds were full. I walked
the entire area.
Higley and Ocotillo Roads
8/27/2009 I went to work at williams
airforce base and since it was my birthday, I split
afterwards and went here!!!
Higley and Ocotillo Roads
2/20/2022 It was closed.
Gilbert and Riggs Roads
1/2/2018 Just stopped on my way back
from Higley and Ocotillo.
Higley and Ocotillo Roads
11/7/2009 No Notes Entered
Higley and Ocotillo Roads
3/24/2016 No water except in that
canal thing. Vast stretches of beige baked earth. I
went to get my computer from UPS clean across town.
What a hassle.
Higley and Ocotillo Roads
9/6/2011 No water in any of the
ponds. Well, a puddle in one. DRY DRY DRY. However,
the canal was full to the top and that's where I saw
the heron and the grebe.
Higley and Ocotillo Roads
08/23/2008 Only the farthest pond
had any water. The canals were, however, cool and
clear and deep.
Higley and Ocotillo Roads
11/7/2009 Planning to go to the
Superstitions. I'm still sick. I got up and eight six
tacos. I must be mad. I don't feel so hot. I still
have a chronic cough. It's been fourteen days.
At higley and ocotillo I went in the back and drove
all over.
Higley and Ocotillo Roads
01/04/2009 Rainy. Rather cold. I
walked and it sprinkled.
Higley and Ocotillo Roads
03/07/2009 Some paintball gun guys
were over in the desert nearby. I slept out last
night.
Higley and Ocotillo Roads
11/26/2017 Someone said they saw the
Northern Beardless Tyrannulet here but I couldn't find
him and there was a couple there that couldn't either
and the guy was bitter about it.
Higley and Ocotillo Roads
12/23/2010 Steve and I drove past
and saw the shovelers and other birds on the water. We
were looking for new homes to live in. For me to live
in that is.
Higley and Ocotillo Roads
5/26/2010 Steve and I went because I
had to take my car to Brown and Brown or Browne and
Browne to get the AC air conditioning fixed. It cost
351 dollars. We drove his beater to the ponds. Two
roadrunners. Ibis. Rah.
Higley and Ocotillo Roads
12/13/2008 Steve and Sonny and
Skippy and I went. It was a little cold and windy and
some of the birds were blown away including the
long-billed dowitcher, which we didn't get to see.
Higley and Ocotillo Roads
01/07/2010 Still vacash and I went
here. I think it's kind of a long drive . Not that
bad. Cool day. No one there. Ponds all full.
Higley and Ocotillo Roads
12/20/2011 Tilapia in the canals.
Some greenies too.
Higley and Ocotillo Roads
11/22/2014 Well, I haven't been here
in a while and the housing development is well on its
way and folks are moving in. Looks like a nice place
because you can look out your back window in many of
the houses and see the ponds. I couldn't go in the
back way anymore but I could stop and look at
different angles from the housing area.
Higley and Ocotillo Roads
6/30/2021 Went there NOW 34 times
since 2008. Missed 2013 and 2015 and 2019 and 2020!
Googled earthed it. Two girls had walked around
apparently as they went back to their car. One guy
walking by. There was something that looked like a
grebe in the canal there but it went somewhere. That
was the only water. I went to "the Bridges" housing
place. BIG houses. No people but beautiful parks. I
couldn't get to the roads that I found before. I went
to Fry's and then here.
Elliot and Cooper Roads
11/22/2014 Went to three places:
Elliot and Cooper Roads, Higley and Ocotillo Roads,
and Veterans' Oasis Park. Still can't see over the
palo verde tree into the pond.
Higley and Ocotillo Roads
3/17/2025 Went with the Desert
Rivers Audubon Society. Six of us. One Lois and one
Theona? An older guy. Got up early. Six o'clock alarm.
Drove out at 6:30. Down Riggs to Higley to Ocotillo
and a half mile north to the parking lot. SUN IN MY
EYES ALL THE WAY.
