Robert Patterson ObituaryPatterson, Robert Allen "Bob"
born November 23, 1927, died at home July 3. Robert was a professor emeritus at Arizona State University where for 32 years he taught zoology and physiology to students who went on to become doctors and nurses, as well as forest rangers and laboratory techinicians. Born in Lock Haven, PA, Bob earned his undergraduate degree at the University of Michigan and received his Ph.D. at Ohio State University in 1957. At ASU his research centered on the effects of scorpion venom. He also ran the university's Animal Resource Center and served as assistant chair of the Zoology Department. He was a founding member of the International Society of Toxinology and an officer of the ASU chapter of Sigma Xi, an international honor society for research scientists and engineers. He also was a member of the Tempe Lions Club and a passionate contract bridge player. Robert served honorably in the US Army, in 1946 and 1951. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ann, and by their children, Rebecca Thompson (Jack), Kenneth Patterson (Kathleen), and Stephen Patterson (Elizabeth), all of Tempe, AZ, as well as by Jennifer Shick (A. Joseph) of Mesa, AZ, plus grandchildren, Zachary, Ryan, and Casey Patterson; Christian, Caroline, and David Thompson, and Lucas, Sadie, and Zane Patterson of Tempe and Alene, Sarah, and Ann Shick of Mesa.
