Fred Sanborn, M.D.
SOUTH ROYALTON—Frederick Sanborn, M.D., 88,
died Thursday morning, April 26, 2001, after a long
battle with cancer.
He was born Sept. 23, 1912 in Winchester,
Mass; the son of Harry C. and Carolyn L. (Ellard)
Sanborn. He attended Winchester schools, graduating in
1930 from Winchester High school. He graduated from
Dartmouth College in 1934 and Dartmouth Medical School
in 1935. He then attended Harvard Medical School in
Massachusetts graduating in 1937.
On July 5, 1941 he married Mary Louise
Ainsworth in South Royalton, Vt. He was a veteran who
served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in China and
New Zealand. After being discharged from the Navy in
1946, he worked at the VA Hospital in Chelsea, Mass., He
worked many years at the Barnstable County Hospital in
Pocasset, Mass., retiring in 1969.
In 1972 he and Mary moved to their home on
Oxbow Road in South Royalton. Mary died September 10,
1990, while vacationing in Inverness, Scotland.
He is survived by a son, Robert A. Sanborn of
South Royalton, a daughter, Carolyn R. Sanborn of
Albuquerque, N. Mex. and three grandchildren as well as
many nieces and nephews.
At his request there will be no calling hours
or funeral service. The Boardway & Cilley Funeral
Home, Main Street, Chelsea is in charge of arrangements.
