JULY 2021

Mute Swans Chestnut and Alma School and Canada Goose.jpg

Yesterday I went over to the outside bar armed against the virus with PF flyers vaccine and bartenders with masks and gloves. As I was weaving home, I saw ENORMOUS swans in the ponds, which may be bad poetry but true except there was only one pond. So, today I got up and went over there. They were very tame—literally as tame as field mice! I'm not exaggerating; THAT'S how tame they were!—and I took their pictures and movies too. They appear to be Mute Swans. At least they didn't say a word when I was there.
I'm still working on this poem commemorating the event.
Aside from an emu or two
And an ostrich across which I came at a zoo
I think these were the biggest birds
The VERY biggest two
That I have ever chanced upon
Or glanced upon
With naked eye or through
My 8.5 by .44's
300-foot field of view
(at a thousand yards)
Actually, my Swift Audubon 8.5 x .44 binoculars have a WALLOPING 300 and THIRTY-FOOT field of view!
