In the late 1960s and early 70s, Tempe-based band, Lassie, roamed the Arizona roads playing clubs all over the Copper State. Their sound was not unlike the chart topping bands of their day as they married the Detroit, Los Angeles, and London sound. Skillful guitars and distinctive vocals, intertwined with the classic sound of a Vox Continental organ (made famous by Doors keyboardist Ray Manzarek), added to the band’s classic sound.

Lassie was comprised of Bob Joyce on rhythm guitar and vocals, Tim Barkac on lead guitar and vocals, Jeff Cole on keyboards, guitar and vocals, Mark Voyles on bass, and Jim Clawson on drums. On February 3, 1969 the band entered Audio Recorders of Arizona and recorded eight of their best songs. The tunes were mixed by famed engineer Jack Miller and the band was poised for national attention. Surprisingly the album was never released and the band soon faded into oblivion. Remarkably, Lassie’s stellar recordings were found in the Audio Recorders archives and are now available on Fervor Records!
